Caribbean Cruise On Carnival Vista by MyChoiceVacation (A collaboration)

“I think my new found love is cruising. I enjoyed every moment on this cruise.

From my time on sea to my time on the port. Everything was amazing – the service, the food, onboard activities, my cabin and so much more. I had pondered on the best way to write this post that will drive home the awesomeness of this cruise and I concluded I’ll just segment various aspects of the experience.

The Cabin

If you remember during the planning stage as I stated in my earlier post, I picked the interior guarantee cabin. This was basically the least priced room and I have to say it surpassed my expectation. The room and washroom were spacious, clean, and full of basic amenities that anyone would require for a nice stay. The amenities included a smart TV, bed, safe, mirrors in the room and washroom, working table and chair, different socket points (with universal points), blanket, fridge, cupboard, phone, towels and so on.

I was particularly impressed with the smart TV. It was linked to my onboard account meaning aside watching news and movies, you can access your onboard account, catch up on what is happening on board, be informed 24/7, check out your onboard pictures, daily plans/activities and so much more.

Room service was at its peak. You could order your food and it was brought to you all inclusive in your cost. Also if you needed to do any washing, there was a launderette down the hall that had a washer, dryer and iron.

The Onboard activities

So basically, it is not possible to get bored on the ship because there was an activity almost every 15 minutes. There is always something going on onboard for different age brackets and interests. There was food 24/7, a skyride, obstacle course, lounge (inside and by the sea), a world class spa, shops (I’m talking major shopping), basketball court, game room, Jacuzzi, pool and so much more.

However, if all you want to do is have some peace and quiet while overlooking the ocean and reading a book, Carnival vista planned for you too. There is a section on the boat called ‘Serenity’. It is basically a quiet spot where you can just sunbathe and relax.

Video Player

But if either of these ranges of activities or ‘serenity’ opportunities isn’t your forte, you can occupy yourself with other 24/7 services provided on board.

The Food

If I had to pick a title for this part of the cruise, I would call it “Food in excess”.

There was a ton of food on this ship. Sadly, I am not a foodie and I don’t have the best eating habit but I can confidently say the meals were made to perfection! You will think that providing meals for about 4000 guests and about a 1000 crew members will result in the food being industrialized and tasteless. Nope! It wasn’t.

Also food was available 24/7 and in all kinds of variety. The one thing I couldn’t get enough of was ice-cream and frozen yogurt. At some point I was having frozen yogurt every hour but I reduced it by the third day.

Video Player

My best meals were at the Reflection Restaurant where we had our dinner (if you didn’t want a buffet). The meals here were excellent and memorable.  I had lobster, crab cake, jerk chicken, tomato rice (jollof), prawns curry, grilled fish, amongst many other yummy dishes. I even went as far as having a meal that was made with pineapple. I was trying to be as adventurous as I could with food (which to be honest wasn’t a lot). But how can I forget the desert! I was totally adventurous with the desert too and I wasn’t disappointed once. Do you know I had a four course meal every evening?

The food on the cruise gets an ‘A’ from me and my friends on board totally agreed and all the meals are cost inclusive too.

The Port days

We had three port stops. Ocho Rios in Jamaica, Cayman Island in  Grand Cayman and Cozumel in Mexico with about 8 hours onshore at each stop. Ensure that your phone is on airplane mode and set to the ship time so that you don’t miss your cruise.

The ship offers onshore excursion. If it is your first time or you are interested in a particular adventure that you won’t want to miss, I will advise you to get the onshore excursions offered onboard.

The cruise claims to guarantee the best prices and also ensures you get priority disembarking from the ship as well as making it back on time. However, if you want to save money and be flexible with your itinerary you can wait till you get to the port where you will meet a lot of locals with more discounted tour/excursion packages. Writing about my port experience on this post will only make this post too lengthy. So watch out for the next post where I will break down every adventure onshore step by step!

Onboard entertainment

I love stage plays.

Last year I think I went to the cinema once in January but I saw about six stage plays. Let me not digress here. The point I am trying to make is that I enjoy stage plays a lot and every play on the ship was great. I was so impressed. They were delivered to perfection. I was captivated every time.

My best performance was a stage played called “FLICK”. If I had to pick three words for the show it would be  ‘My Oh My’!

Fortunately, I was in the first seat during the show and at that point I didn’t know I would be blown away. At every point when I thought I was blown away I would look around the room to see if anyone was as excited as I was. Maybe I was that gingered because I hadn’t seen anything like it before but the “Flick” was freaking amazing. After the show, off course I took pictures with the cast.

I also enjoyed going for an R+ rated comedy show. It was one of those comedy shows where the comedian tells a joke for about 15 minutes and spends the rest of the time using the audience for his jokes. I kept praying he won’t pick on me. You had to be a good sport because the more difficult you are about the jokes, the more he will make fun of you.

On one of the nights, I jumped from one cruise entertainment to the other. I started with a play production, live R&B 90s soul music, live Latin music and ended the night with a movie and popcorn outside, right next to the pool. I actually had a few nights when this happened.

I also enjoyed the Michael Jackson night. It made me remember why MJ is such a legend. Did I mention there is a club onboard? I spent about an hour there. I actually just found myself in the club because it was the same place as the MJ blast and turned into the club afterwards.

Other fun aspects on the ship

▪ We had dress codes on three separate evenings onboard. On two of the evenings,  we had to dress elegantly (It was called ‘Elegant Night’) and the on other evening the dress code was all-white (it was an All-White Affair) which was classy. For some reason, I didn’t get the memo of the dress code before boarding but luckily I had a white dress and two sort of fancy dresses. The dress code is not compulsory.

▪ Best cruise director ever – Mark! He was so friendly and fun and was truly the best director anyone on the ship could have hoped for. Our sail away party was a blast and every other party onboard. Mark was definitely an awesome ship host.

▪ The ship was like a town on sea. You will need to remind yourself sometimes that you are actually in the middle of the ocean. The ocean looks so calm from the ship.

Camp Ocean is a daycare for kids. It is also cost inclusive and I think it makes a family vacation on the ship really fun. The kids could go on with their activities while adults were out having fun. The camps were open till 1am and the kids actually enjoy Camp Ocean. I think a cruise is the best option for a family vacation especially if you have young kids.

▪ There are amazing photographers onboard ready to make help you document your fun times. The photographers are so good that you can actually take professionals family pictures onboard the ship (seem like a number of people did).

I know I had the perfect experience on my first cruise, but the other guests who had been on other cruises reminded me that another cruise ship experience might be a little different. When I asked other guests on the cruise if it would be fair to judge other cruise experiences based on my Carnival vista experience, 3 out of 4 said NO! Here is why. The Carnival Vista is the newest of the ships in the Carnival line. Plus, it is only eight months old. With that, I want to specifically say that this was my CARNIVAL VISTA cruise experience. I met a-lot of cruisers and they all had nothing but good experiences on the different ships/cruises they had been on.

I honestly had a blast! I can’t wait to get on another cruise. I am thinking somewhere in Asia, port start; Indonesia. My first night was a little rough though. I felt like I was in a rocky/water bed. This is because my cabin was on deck 9 so I could feel the waves of the sea on the ship. So I was a little bit frightened but it all went away by the second night when I realized all was well. If your fist night is similar, don’t freak out o! The ship was not in any distress. I was only feeling the movement of the waves.

I could write so much more about my cruise experience but I really tried to keep it as short as possible (which didn’t happen). So if you have any question for me, feel free to write it in the comments section and I would answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Tour Dubai on a Budget

Hi guys, so I posted a video Dubai on a budget on my YouTube channel NdatseNdomo TV and a lot of people asked me for things to do in Dubai that cost little to nothing and having lived in the Middle East for close to 6 years now, I’m here to give you all the tea 💁so, here goes…

1. Visit the dancing fountain which shows in the evenings in Dubai Mall by Burj Khalifa. There’s a Dubai Mall metro station which can help you save taxi fare.

Here’s a video Dancing Fountain.

2. Walk by the lake in Jumeirah Lake Towers, there are chairs and beautiful views for you to take pictures and just relax. There are also lots of coffee shops and outlets if you get hungry.

3. Visit any of the beaches in Dubai, most of them are free. Find out if there are private timings for women beforehand though.

4. Stroll around JBR and marina walk. There are street shops and carnival like atmosphere around some parts. There are also usually activities you can watch and enjoy. Hold some cash if you want some food, Ice cream, dessert 🍨 etc

5. Visit the Global Village. It is closed for some months during the year so find out here before you go Global Village Dubai. Tickets are just 15 AED approx $4.1 to go. This activity along can take almost a whole day and it’s fun too.

6. Visit the Amazing Miracle Garden. You have to visit to see it for yourself. I can not even begin to describe how beautiful it is. I absolutely love going there. It is closed for some months during the year so definitely find out here Dubai Miracle Garden ahead of your trip. Entrance fees are less then $10

7. Please do not leave Dubai without visiting the Butterfly 🦋 Garden 😱😱 it is super beautiful guys I can not even begin to tell you. Nature at its finest. 100s of species of butterflies and flowers and everything OMG. Check ahead of your trip here Dubai Butterfly Garden

one on my face. Lol kidding.I painted this as part of my creative makeup

8. Grab some food or frozen yoghurt around Box Park Dubai, budget for $10 for your coffee and snack. It’s great for catching up with your friends or fellow travel partners for coffee and shiii lol. If you are a solo traveler, don’t worry the people are quite friendly 😊

9. If you can handle it, go for some exciting bumpy ride in the Dubai Desert Safari. It’s a package that comes with food, entertainment like belly dancing around the campfire, camel riding and lots more. It’s definitely something you will want to try once at least. There are various service providers of these services but it should honestly not cost you more than $35 if you surf for a good deal.

10. Take the metro and just have a beautiful view of the city as far as the metro goes. Also read up on the culture and history of the country so you have a feel of it.

So that’s it guys, while a lot of what I have mentioned here are free, the rest of the activities when I total them are not up to $100 so make sure you have fun and be sure to tag me on your social media and message me as well or comment here if my tips have helped you.

Fortunately I won’t be giving you a cost on your Air flights and such because that varies so much but Dubai has peak seasons when flights and hotels tend to be more expensive like Christmas, shopping festival etc so be sure to plan ahead and book ahead.

Lady in Red…

It’s my birthday today. November 27! I am grateful for everything

My prayer for the coming year is Lord, make me fruitful on all sides.

Listening to Bishop Jakes the other day. He said he never wanted to be famous, he prayed to be effective. That changed my perspective on a whole lot of things. He also said ‘it is far better to want to be effective than to want to be famous. Remember, everybody famous isn’t great and everybody great isn’t famous. ‘

Exclamation point. Bold. Italicize. That’s it!!!

Art! Not Fashion??

I’m all for creativity honestly.

Read my title again and tell me what you think in the comment section.

As for me, what do I believe? LOL! You don’t even need to ask, if you follow my blog, you already know I believe fashion has no limits and I always feel some satisfaction when I combine pieces in manners people would never think to try and they come out effortlessly beautiful.

All the time I feel I am definitely NOT using my brain up to even 5% the capacity God has given me. I feel there is so so so much you and I can do. Am I wrong to believe so? I think not! From flying planes to dancing to blogging to professional swimming and lots lots more…. I know we can do anything…. I know if we put our minds to something, we are going to do it and do it well, excellently well…. Phil 4:13

13 Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am. The Message

Did that scripture just blow your mind? It blows mine away all the time.
I can do anything, everything, ALL things! ALL things. ALL! Not SOME!!

In my state of pondering and wondering, I’m having all these midnight thoughts, morning meditations and random midday wanderings, on how best to explore my full potential, enter Jaru, a fellow MUA, creative director, dress maker (she made a wedding dress overnight – YES – overnight), hair maker, set designer, costume designer and so much more; into my life and she definitely challenges me to put more effort into displaying my creative juices. Thanks Jaru.

We go back and forth on designs and she shows me one. I’m sold!
Its Art
Its Fashion
Prayer is man’s greatest weapon! Lord, by Your strength I can do all things.
Art. Fashion. Oh! They’re not the same word?
I definitely think they are.

Kinging; as a Queen

So lately I’ve been meditating.

Meditating on Ps 23:1. ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want’. ‘Want’! Not ‘Need’

Do you know what that means? We are not talking about basic needs for survival. WANT!!!! Chew on that – this is not a mere blog post!

What do you want? An island. A Ferarri, A great job? Whatever! ‘Want’ not ‘Need’.

That’s like an open cheque. Do you know where the real problem lies? It lies in your mind – your mindset – not daring to dream nor really really want. Before the thought even creeps into your minds, your fear kills it. But guess what? It is really already given to you because again Phil 4:19, all needs (wants) have been provided according to heavenly riches – immeasurable!

Imagine you are royalty – a queen – born into countless riches, everything you want, you have. You are clueless to what lack really means, because you’re a queen. This is the best part of this post for me – telling you, your imaginations are a reality, your Heavenly Father is a King, YOU are His heir, YOU are a QUEEN. Can we just go into the world and start living it out like yesterday?

Yas! We are Queens

Hmmm, I shall NOT want!

Always told mum at age 5 that I want to be a Queen when I grow up!

Little did I know, I have been, am and always will be one!

Graced with favor, divine blessings and abundance

I’m all for re-styling – in my creative way, I figured you can use as a neck piece too. Thank me later!

Stun in Peplum

Ladies (all shapes and sizes) get in here!!! LOL!

We all love dresses that accentuate our curves. I love the way peplums have the potential to flatter our plus size curves, enhance our size 0 curves and accentuate every figure in between.

If you haven’t noticed, I love me a good peplum in any form, dress, belt, shirt, skirt and even pants.

I designed the dress below and my tailor friend made it for me. Her deets are below.

How do you rock yours?

99 problems, a good outfit ain’t 1!

Read the following story (I hope you do) or scroll down to outfit pictures:

Story was told of a pastor who told everyone in his congregation to pen down all their problems in life and drop the sheets of paper at the altar.

Boy! Did they write and write and write and laid everything at the foot of the cross – altar – the aim was to let go and let God takeover.

In a twist of things and to teach them gratitude, he then asked them to come back to the altar and pick any random sheet (knowing it would be impossible to pick the exact same one they dropped). So everyone picked someone Else’s.

He then urged them to open the sheets and read the problems they had in their hands. Shouts of exclamations filled the chapel as they all realized what other people were facing seemed a million times worse than what they themselves were going through.

“I’ll take mine back” they all started saying, I can’t deal with these things I’m reading. The pastor had a hearty laugh knowing no further sermon was needed on gratitude as he asked them to all drop back the sheets at the altar.

You see, while life isn’t perfect, and problems may come and go, you have to learn to let go and let God and as difficult as it is to be grateful in the midst of problems, you have to train yourself to be.

My life changed when I started thanking God for my problems and what He was trying to teach me through them and when I started giving out literally the last money and things on me at my poorest and my most broke times.

In an attempt to relate this story to my fashion – hope this works –

1. I’ll say life isn’t perfect but your outfit can be.

2. 99 problems but a good outfit isn’t one

Told you a good outfit makes you have a good laugh and feel good 🙂

Wow! Something must really be funny yo!

But don’t ask me what (tongue out)

I’ll just adjust my crown and keep moving

Sustainability in businesses

Hello readers,

I know I’m long overdue for a new post so here goes:

Ever wondered why you see businesses you once thought successful fold up? Today’s topic, Sustainability in Business, is on my mind and here are a few points to keep in mind when creating and sustaining a successful business, I hope you learn a few things from it.

  1. Try to create a business that can be sustained in your physical absence. A business that requires you to be there before things move smoothly needs to be re-structured to ensure long term sustainability.
  2. Focus on building a global brand name for the purpose of (but not limited to) franchising; think what contributes to McDonald’s success (trust me on this one, I’ve done a couple of their  financial analysis). You would not only benefit from a sustainable and reputable brand name, you would also benefit financially from this.
  3. Closely monitor economic trends, if there’s industry changes, you would want to know the causes and determine if you should strategically move with the big players; think why Kodak failed. Also, for instance in the next 15 years the world would be relying on sources of alternative and sustainable energy, oil might be no where and at that point Oil industry players should be moving towards where the patterns are leading.
  4. Don’t undermine the power of your competitors even if you are an industry leader; pay close attention to market trends.
  5. Make realistic financial projections. Expecting to break even too soon can sometimes be the cause of financial stress on a business. Not breaking even or making profit in the first few years is not an indicator of an unsustainable business.
  6. Engage your customers. Pay close attention to feedback and be particular about customer service. They are why you are in business. As much as you can, pursue brand loyalty.
  7. Partner with people that believe in your brand. Successful businesses are not smooth sailing all the time but having partners and strategic alliances who support you makes it easier.

Creating sustainability in your business requires much more than can be outlined in one post but keeping these in mind is a great place to start and always refer to. Overtime, I would also be writing about specific topics. I’m also open to writing on topics you suggest.

Thank you readers and have a great week ahead. Cheers. xx
